Your computers
The Computers card on the Projects page lists each computer where you runaius, once: its name and system, the folders AIUS is open in there (for
example 2 AIUS windows: ~, ~/work/Churn (Churn)) and the project each folder
is linked to, and whether it is connected now or when it was last seen. You can
run as many as you like, on one computer or several, in one folder or many. The
card keeps itself up to date while you look at it.
A computer that is asleep, or where AIUS has stopped responding, shows as not
connected within a minute, and nothing is sent to it until AIUS answers again.
The name is the one your computer gives itself. On a Mac, macOS sometimes adds a
number, as in MacBook Pro (2); you can change the name in System Settings,
under General, Sharing.
Open takes you to the project with the AIUS panel open on that computer.
Forget removes a computer from the list when AIUS is not running there; it
appears again the next time aius starts there.
Working from the browser
In a project, open AIUS from the tools on the right (or from the top of the page on a narrow screen). The panel holds the project’s conversations and lets you start new ones on any computer where AIUS is running. Before any computer runsaius, the panel shows the steps to install and start it:
- AIUS can be open in any folder on that computer. What you ask runs in the
project’s folder there, with its files and tools. If the project has no folder
on that computer yet, AIUS makes one in
~/AIUS(named after the project), links it to the project and brings in its conversations. Files are not copied between computers. - The line above the message box says which computer the next question runs on, and which conversation it continues. Choose New conversation to start another one. When you have several computers, choose one there.
- Several conversations can run at the same time, in one project or several, each on its own. The list marks the ones still working.
- You see the answer as it is written and the steps it takes, such as the files it reads and the commands it runs. The line under the conversation says what AIUS is doing, for example Running a command on Mac mini, and for how long.
- Hover over an answer to copy it. Delete a conversation from the list; it is removed from AIUS Light, and each of your computers deletes its copy the next time AIUS runs there.
- The terminal button above a conversation copies the command that opens it in a
terminal on any of your computers (
aius openand the conversation’s id). - When AIUS isn’t running on the conversation’s computer, the panel says how to carry on there, with that command and a Copy button.
- When AIUS needs your permission, for example to run a command, the panel asks you: Allow once, Always allow or Deny.
- When AIUS asks you a question, for example which file to use, the panel shows it with its choices and a field for your own answer: choose or write one and select Send answer, or Dismiss it.
- When a connection needs a key or password, the panel says which one to paste in AIUS on which computer, for example Paste the Notion integration token in AIUS on Mac mini. Keys are only ever pasted in the terminal, never in the browser.
- AIUS knows the question came from the browser. It puts results in its answer, and in a report published to the project when they are worth keeping, instead of pointing you at files on that computer. Signing in to a new connection only works in a browser on that computer, so AIUS tells you when a link needs it.
- Stop ends the current step, as it would in the terminal.
- Stops, answers and follow-ups go to the AIUS window that runs the conversation, when several are open on the computer. A new conversation goes to a window open in the project’s folder, if there is one.
- When the computer cannot do what you asked (for example, no model is chosen there), or does not answer within a few seconds, the panel says so, puts your question back in the box and lets you try again.
- An answer that stopped half-way because AIUS on the computer closed or lost its connection says so under the answer.
Conversations are kept
AIUS Light keeps every conversation from a folder linked to a project, whether it was asked in the terminal or in the browser, on any of your computers:- A conversation typed in the terminal appears in the project’s AIUS panel as it is written.
- You can read the project’s conversations in the browser at any time, even when none of your computers is running AIUS.
- On another computer, linking a folder to the same project brings the project’s conversations there. You can continue any of them there, from the terminal or from the browser, and the first computer gets the new messages before your next message there, or the next time AIUS starts on it.
- Continued on two computers, a conversation keeps every message from both: neither computer’s turns are written over.
- A conversation you delete in a terminal, or in the browser, is deleted in AIUS Light and on your other computers, and does not come back.
Turning it off
To keep a computer from receiving prompts from the browser, run/remote in
AIUS there. It turns control off for the whole computer, in every AIUS window
open on it. Run it again to turn control back on. Its conversations are still
kept. Only you, signed in to your own account, can see or use your computers.
